Improved Accessibility Statement

Belmullet Boat Charters is committed to making our website usable by as many people as possible, whatever device or ability they bring to it.

We have put real effort into the accessibility and usability of https://www.belmulletboatcharters.ie. The site conforms to the great majority of WCAG 2.2 Level AA, its target standard. This satisfies the requirements of the European Accessibility Act (EAA), which came into force on 28th June 2025.

This statement covers the main website at https://www.belmulletboatcharters.ie and everything on it. Content is built with accessibility in mind from the outset and checked against the WCAG 2.2 AA criteria.

A small number of details are produced by third-party tools embedded in the site, and these are not always fully within our control. They include:

Steps we have taken to support accessibility

1. Logical structure: Each page uses a clear, ordered heading structure that makes content easy to scan and navigate.
2. Descriptive page titles: Every page carries its own unique, meaningful title.
3. Alternative text: Images and other non-text content carry descriptive alternative text.
4. Meaningful links: Link text makes sense on its own, with no bare “click here” or “read more”.
5. Named controls: Buttons, icons and other interactive controls each have a clear accessible name for screen readers.
6. Declared language: The language of every page is set in the code so screen readers pronounce it correctly.
7. Keyboard operation: Everything on the site can be used with a keyboard alone, no mouse required.
8. Visible focus: The keyboard focus indicator is clearly visible on every interactive element.
9. No keyboard traps: Keyboard users can always move away from any component they land on.
10. Skip link: A “skip to main content” link lets keyboard users jump past repeated navigation.
11. Steady navigation: Menus stay in the same place and order from page to page.
12. Consistent components: Elements that do the same job are labelled the same way throughout the site.
13. Colour contrast: Text keeps at least a 4.5:1 contrast ratio against its background.
14. No reliance on colour: Meaning is never carried by colour on its own.
15. Enlargeable text: Text can be increased to 200% with no loss of content or function.
16. Relative type sizes: All font sizes use relative units (rem), so text scales in proportion when someone changes their browser’s default font-size setting.
17. Small-screen support: Content works fully at a 320px viewport width with no horizontal scrolling, helping people who zoom in or use small screens.
18. Labelled forms: Every form field has a visible label and clear, descriptive error messages.
19. Audio under user control: Any audio that starts on its own can be paused or stopped by the visitor.
20. Reduced motion respected: Animations and transitions are switched off for anyone whose operating system requests reduced motion, via the prefers-reduced-motion media query.
