Belmullet Boat Charters operates from Blacksod Pier, Belmullet, Co. Mayo, unless you are otherwise informed by a member of staff. We have included the information below to help you plan your journey. If you have any questions about access or boarding, please contact us in advance and we will be happy to assist.
By car:
If you are arriving by car and using a Sat Nav, the eircode is F26 KC7V. On arrival, you will see the iconic Blacksod Lighthouse at the start of the pier.
A large public car park is located adjacent to our ticket office beside the pier. Additional parking spaces are available on the pier itself.
Passengers can be dropped off and collected at the departure point on the pier.
By bus:
From Ballina Bus Station, the Route 446 Bus Éireann service operates to Blacksod, with a stop located at Blacksod Lighthouse, right beside our departure point.
All buses on this route are low-floor and accessible to wheelchair users.

By taxi:
There are several local taxi and hackney services operating throughout the Belmullet Peninsula and can provide transport to and from Blacksod Pier.
We recommend booking taxis in advance, particularly during the summer season and for early morning or late evening journeys.

The nearest airport to us is Ireland West Airport Knock. The airport offers regular domestic and international flights, making it a convenient gateway for visitors travelling to County Mayo and the Wild Atlantic Way.

Boat Access & Transport
- Assistance with boarding and disembarking is available.
- Crew members are happy to assist with luggage, mobility equipment, and personal belongings.
- There is a drop-off zone located at the point of departure on Blacksod Pier.
- Trip times can be arranged, where possible, to coincide with higher tides, making access to the boat easier and more comfortable.
- Departure facilities at Blacksod Pier can be discussed in advance to help guests prepare for their visit.
Inishkea Island Visitor Information
The Inishkea Islands are a natural and historic environment, featuring uneven ground, grassy paths, and areas of rough terrain.
However, the historic village on Inishkea is located directly beside the pier. As a result, guests with limited mobility can enjoy and experience many of the island’s historic features and spectacular scenery from their point of arrival.
We encourage guests with mobility requirements to contact us in advance to discuss their individual needs and how we can best accommodate them during their visit.
Travelling with a young family
We warmly welcome children of all ages, whether they are just a few months old or seasoned young adventurers. Buggies and pushchairs can be brought on board, making it easier for families travelling with young children.
For safety reasons, children under the age of 7 are required to travel on our larger passenger vessels and are not permitted to travel on our RIBs. This ensures that our youngest passengers can enjoy the experience safely and comfortably.

Planning Your Visit
What to Wear & What to Bring
While we love a bit of glamour, we recommend suitable clothing and footwear for your adventure along the Wild Atlantic Way, so high heels are best left ashore!
For guests visiting the Inishkea Islands, comfortable walking shoes, boots, or runners are the ideal choice, as the islands feature grassy paths and uneven ground.
We recommend bringing:
- A camera or mobile phone to capture the spectacular scenery and wildlife.
- Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a sun hat on bright days.
- A rain jacket and warm layers, as weather conditions can change.
- A spare change of clothes.
- Appropriate footwear, such as runners or walking shoes.
- Any personal medication you may require.
- Drinking water and refreshments.
- Lunch and snacks.
- Swimming gear — in case you fancy a dip!
Before Departure
Please arrive at Blacksod Pier at least 15 minutes before your scheduled departure time to allow sufficient time for check-in, boarding, and safety briefings.
As all trips operate on Atlantic weather and sea conditions, departure times may occasionally be adjusted to ensure the safety and comfort of all passengers.
